Thanks to everyone who participated in the Biggest Energy Saver Consumer Contest! The 2011 contest is now closed.
The Biggest Energy Saver Consumer Contest, sponsored by Grid 21, challenges residential electricity consumers whose electricity is delivered by Oncor or CenterPoint Energy and who reside in the state of Texas to reduce their electric energy consumption and demonstrate the benefits of using smart meter energy consumption information. The contest will run August 1, 2011 – September 30, 2011.
Participants who can not only reduce their consumption but also show how they sustainably reduced it could win the grand prize of an electric vehicle, a first prize of a full kitchen suite of GE Profile smart appliances enabled with Brillion ™ technology, or a second-place prize of a GE Profile Front Load washer/electric dryer pair enabled with Brillion ™ technology (Nucleus home energy manager included.)
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of entry
- Must have lived at their current residence since August 1, 2010 or earlier
- Must reside in a home with a smart meter serving only one residence
- Must be on a residential electric rate plan prior to August 1, 2010
- Must receive a monthly electric bill from a retail electric provider
- Must have registered with the Smart Meter Texas portal
- Must agree to release billing data to contest entities
The Biggest Energy Saver campaign encourages customers to track their consumption via the Smart Meter Texas portal, in-home displays available through a retail electric provider, and applications that have been developed by competing app developers for the contest. Use of an application in the contest is optional.
The first 185 eligible entrants from each of the Oncor and CenterPoint service areas will be automatically provided with an In-Home Display. This device may enable you to more easily monitor your energy use. This device is for optional use in the contest and is not required for participation.
Finalists in the Biggest Energy Saver Consumer Contests will be notified of next steps in late fall 2011.
