The Biggest Energy Saver Application Developer Contest for 2011 is closed.
The Biggest Energy Saver Application Developer Contest, sponsored by Grid 21, invites app developers to build online or mobile apps that leverage customer data from the Smart Meter Texas portal in order to create an energy management tool that gives consumers more control over their energy decisions.
Entrants can be individuals, teams of up to ten people, or companies. All individual entrants, and each individual member of a team or company entrant, must be 18 years of age or older. The contest will run July 6 – August 21, 2011. Starting August 1, 2011, the submitted apps will then be used as part of the customer contest that will run from August 1 to September 30 for Oncor and CenterPoint Energy customers with smart meters installed at their homes. Customers will use the apps to try to reduce their energy consumption.
Winners will be judged by the following criteria:
- Average rating as determined by registered users
- Number of individuals who utilized the application
- Usability of application to facilitate energy management
- Most Innovative
- Accessibility of application across multiple platforms
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning apps:
- Best Overall Application winner: $50,000
- Most Energy Saved, Best Rated, Most innovative, winners: $20,000 each
- Prizes for winners by platform: $10,000 each
Retail Electric Providers are eligible for a non-cash award.
